Union City, Tenn.–They came in the doors of Union City Elementary School with big smiles on their faces.

They left the same way.

A steady stream of parents and prospective students flocked to the UC Elementary School campus Thursday for the 2024-25 Pre-K registration and kindergarten screening.

Parents began the annual process of enrolling their children for the next school year by completing the necessary registration paperwork. There was also some initial informal testing in one-on-one settings between teachers and members of the Classes of 2037. Pre-K screenings will be held in July once those students are officially accepted.

There were plenty of photo opportunities, and spirit wear was available for purchase. Snacks were provided, too. Information on after-school programs and details about the many in-school opportunities for students were shared.

Top-level administrators — including UCES principal Allison Palmer and Vice Principal Bill Kail — and several elementary school teachers were all on hand to welcome interested parties and assist with the sign-up necessities.

Well north of 110 students signed up for both PreK and kindergarten Thursday, with those numbers expected to rise even higher before the new school year begins.

“Those smiling faces of future Golden Tornadoes and their parents were priceless,” Palmer said of the steady stream of families that began at 9 a.m. and lasted until 6 p.m. “Their excitement, their curiosity, and their eagerness to begin their education path reminded us all of why we chose this rewarding profession.

“They took to our surroundings and our teachers quickly. And you could see the comfort and looks on their parents’ faces as they watched their children come in and become engaged immediately. Word of mouth is indeed the best advertiser, and that word is: Everybody can find their place at Union City Schools because we offer the complete educational experience.

“There’s truly nothing like being a Golden Tornado!”

Students will be allowed to register for both Pre-K and Kindergarten until the 2024-25 school year begins in August. For more information, call (731-885-1632) or visit UCES during regular school hours.
