Huntingdon, Tenn.–History was made as Elijah Howard and Herbert Strayhorn became the first graduates in Carroll County of the 24th Judicial District Recovery Court program, overseen by Judge Brent Bradberry.
The two completed the 18-month program designed to help individuals overcome addiction and avoid incarceration through accountability, treatment, and support. The program is newly-established in the 24th Judicial District.
It is designed to help individuals with substance use issues stay out of the criminal justice system and turn their lives around through structure, accountability, and support.
Their journey was celebrated in a small ceremony at Carroll County Courthouse, and a larger ceremony will take place in the near future with more graduates.
Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler said, “Both men expressed that the program helped them rebuild their lives, and look forward to what the future holds.”
