Paris Rotary Awards Scholarships To HCHS Students

rotary-scholarships-25

Paris, Tenn.–The Paris Rotary Club presented scholarships to four Henry County High School students on Thursday at its regular meeting.
Bo Caldwell, representative of the Bill Caldwell Good Citizenship Award scholarship, presented $2000 dollars to Lucy Beth Jackson and Jack Todd.  The Bill Caldwell Good Citizenship scholarship will be sent to the school that Lucy and Jack will be attending in the fall.  The scholarship was created in 1944 as the Good Citizenship scholarship and the name was changed in 1981 to honor long time Rotarian and prominent business manager, William Caldwell. The scholarship is given to one outstanding girl and boy from HCHS nominated by the faculty and selected by the faculty as well.
It recognizes the quality of good citizenship exhibited by the chosen senior. Funds are derived from interest on an endowment through Commercial Bank and Trust Company with additional funding coming from the Rotary Club.
Lucy Beth Jackson is the daughter of Mollie Jackson, and Travis and Meagan Jackson.
Jack Todd son of Travis and Carla Todd received the award as well.  Jack is a pitcher on the Patriot baseball team but that was not what got him selected.  His devotion to high ideals and fair treatment to others has brought him the nomination and selection.
The second set of scholarships awarded today was the W.O. Inman Scholarship given in honor of long time educator W. O. Inman and his wife Elizabeth.  Long time member of the Henry County High School Band, Cole Edwards, son of Drs. Chad and Samantha Edwards was awarded $3000 dollars to further his education.
The final scholarship given on Thursday at the noon meeting was the W. G. Rhea Scholarship.  It too, is an endowment from Commerical Bank and Trust established in 1976 by Dr. W. G. Rhea, long time physician and Rotary member and past governor of the Rotary District.  Selected as this year’s recipient was Amelia Northam, daughter of Sharon Sabin.
All of these students are to be commended for their achievements at HCHS.
