MARTIN, TENN. – First Baptist Church Martin held a community worship service to help open the yearlong 125th anniversary and celebration of the University of Tennessee at Martin’s founding. The university traces its roots to 1900 when the Baptists of Martin established the Hall-Moody Institute. The program featured music and speakers, including Dr. Yancy Freeman, UT Martin chancellor; Dr. Mike Sams, senior pastor, First Baptist Church Martin; and the Rev. Stephen Cavness, pastor, First Baptist Church Fulton. A centennial church service was held Oct. 1, 2000, also at First Baptist Church Martin, to help open the 100-year anniversary and celebration of the university. In photo, Chancellor Freeman.
