LAKE COUNTY, Tenn. —Obion County Sheriff Karl Jackson testified Monday that Austin Drummond, the man accused of murdering four people and abandoning a baby, has been disrupting jail operations.

After a hearing in Lake County Court, it was decided that Drummond will be moved to a state prison ahead of his trial due to his jail behavior.

Sheriff Jackson said his jail is unable to keep housing Drummond because of the disruptions, which include drug possession and covering the window of his cell with feces. Drummond has been housed in Obion County since early August.

Jackson testified Drummond’s presence has caused undue stress on his jail and another officer testified to several disturbances.

According to WREG in Memphis, Jackson said, “I realize we are there to keep inmates but as you can see we have at least six officers here today for security. When we deal with him, we have two officers that deal with him consistently wearing body cameras at all times.”

Sheriff Jackson said he anticipates losing correctional officers and having to replace officers due to Drummond.
