Paris, TN- Halloween will be celebrated this year on Friday, October 31, 2025, and Trick-or Treating will begin at dusk. The Paris Police Department will be out in full force to help ensure that the evening is both safe and enjoyable for everyone. Officers remind drivers to slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution as neighborhoods fill with young trick-or-treaters.
Halloween is a special time for families and friends to enjoy dressing up in costumes, gathering candy, and sharing in the spirit of spooky fun. Unfortunately, some see the holiday as an opportunity for vandalism or unsafe behavior. The Paris Police Department will be patrolling throughout the evening to support the fun and safe side of Halloween — and to address those who choose to engage in harmful or illegal activities.
Chief Ricky Watson said, “We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween. Please follow a few simple safety tips to help protect your children, your home, and others in the community.”
Trick-or-Treating Safety Tips
- Young children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- Older children should travel in groups of two or more — never alone.
- Walk on sidewalks whenever possible; if none are available, walk on the left side facing traffic. · Look both ways before crossing and cross streets only at corners.
- Avoid crossing between parked cars.
- Wear light-colored or reflective clothing to increase visibility.
- Ensure costumes fit properly to prevent tripping.
- Carry a flashlight and, if possible, a cell phone for emergencies.
- Choose flame-retardant costumes and avoid open flames or candles.
- Visit homes with porch lights on and stay in familiar neighborhoods.
- Never enter a stranger’s home.
- Use face paint instead of masks; if using a mask, make sure eye holes are large enough to see clearly. · Have an adult inspect all treats before eating them. Discard anything unwrapped or suspicious.
For Homeowners
- Secure pets indoors for their safety and for visitors.
- Remove obstacles such as hoses, tools, or decorations that could cause tripping.
- Use battery-powered lights instead of candles to prevent fire hazards.
For Drivers
- Avoid heavily congested residential areas when possible.
- Drive slowly and watch for children crossing streets unexpectedly.
- Park carefully when dropping off trick-or-treaters to maintain safe traffic flow.
- Keep headlights on low beams to avoid blinding others.
- Always be courteous and exercise common sense.
The Paris Police Department wishes everyone a safe, fun, and frightfully good Halloween!
