Union City Energy Authority and TVA are impressed with the goings-on in Dan Burhnam’s classes at UC High School.
They’ve shown that by combining to provide a $7,000 grant to be used in Burnham’s technology and coding classes.
Through its Community Care Fund, UCEA and the Tennessee Valley Authority recently teamed to present the financial gift to Burnham and Career and Technology Director Michael Paul Miller.
The money will be earmarked for future projects in Burnham’s classes.
Union City Energy Authority CEO Kyle Ross, who, along with TVA Customer Relations Manager Steven Moore, formally presented a check to Burnham and Miller, spoke glowingly of Burnham and his students.
“Mr. Burnham is an asset to the young minds of today,” Ross claimed. “TVA and UCEA use the skills daily that he teaches for programming protective devices in substations, monitoring of line equipment, fiber communication, and many other departments within our companies.
“Union City Schools sees the need for technical-type jobs and skills, and we want to be supportive of education that assists the electrical and fiber business. We need the types of workers who have the knowledge that these young people are acquiring in Mr. Burnham’s classes.
Miller expressed his appreciation for the funds, saying, “We’re happy to partner with our local industry and TVA and are thankful for them investing in our students and our programs.
“Mr. Burnham’s classes are some of our fastest-growing classes. He makes learning interesting and fun, and the kids love their time with him.”
