UC Elementary “Happiest Place On Earth”

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Principal Allison Palmer surveyed a Union City Elementary School gymnasium packed with smiling faces and boundless energy and declared, “This week, this is the happiest place on earth.”

Palmer’s assessment that came between performances of the annual UCES Kindergarten Christmas program on Tuesday was certainly hard to argue with.

Kindergarteners – led by UCES music teacher Katie Tohn – enthusiastically entertained family and friends with holiday-themed songs during two shows. They were then joined by Voices of UCES for a final performance with the entire student body.

Easily the highlight of the last show came when all students enjoyed the featured singers for a rendition of ‘Christmas at our School,’ a holiday tradition at UCES.

In another note of school cheer from UC Elementary, Guidance Counselor Regena Lindsey extended a heartfelt thank-you message to all the community members and sponsors who helped Union City Schools at Christmas.

Lindsey said that approximately 170 students from the school system and their families were assisted through the generosity of various groups and organizations. Among those giving to the cause were: Chimes for Charity, Shop with a Cop, Salvation Army Angel Tree, Kohler Company of Union City, and several others.

Union City Schools will dismiss for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays with an abbreviated day on Friday. Classes will resume on all three campuses on Jan. 6, with teachers reporting for professional development on Jan. 5.
