Joseph Wyatt Owens, age 68 of Buchanan, TN, died on Monday, December 22, 2025, at his residence.
Wyatt was born in Paris, TN, on March 22, 1957, to the late Bobby Joe Owens and the late Doris Poole Owens.
On June 25, 1976, he married Cindy Lewis Owens, who survives of Buchanan.
A building contractor with Owens Construction for 55 years, he began working with his father at a young age and later with his son, Brent. He designed and built custom homes, commercial buildings, and subdivisions, including Emerald Lake and the surrounding area. Truly a builder at heart, he also built a loving marriage and family with his high school sweetheart. He never missed an opportunity to dance with his wife, or to see a ball game or recital with his children and grandchildren. He served in the Jaycees as both treasurer and president and was a past General Manager of the World’s Biggest Fish Fry. He was a dedicated Tennessee Titans fan and loved crappie fishing on Kentucky Lake, especially Cypress Bay. In later years, he also enjoyed golfing and treasured trips to Panama City Beach, FL, with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Wyatt is survived by two children, Jill (Mike) Snow of Paris, TN, and Brent (Laura) Owens of Springville, TN; a sister, Lynn Douglass of Paris; two brothers, David (Jeanna) Owens of Paris, and Dan (Tammy) Owens of Paris, TN; a brother-in-law, Marty (Libby) Lewis of Paris, TN; his in laws, Jerry & Betty Lewis of Paris, TN; grandchildren, Ethan Fitzgerald, Heidi Owens, and Theo Kenworthy; special cousins, Faye (Sonny) Walker; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Wyatt was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Donald Douglass.
