Union City’s girls posted back-to-back wins since opening the season with three consecutive victories to claim fifth place in the Huntingdon Point Guard Coca-Cola Classic.

The Lady Tornadoes whipped winless Chester County 62-38 on Monday, then ran away from McKenzie 59-26 on Tuesday to even their record at 8-8 heading into the second half of the 2025-26 campaign.

UC’s boys, meanwhile, after beating Memphis East in its opener in the HUB Classic at Liberty Tech, fell to Power Center Academy 54-30 Monday evening. The Twisters were then beaten in the third-place game on Tuesday, 42-39, by Memphis Mitchell.

Union City will carry a 7-8 mark into Saturday’s game at Jackson Christian School to begin their post-Christmas slate.

The following is a recap of those games:

GIRLS

UC 62, Chester Co, 38

UC 59, McKenzie 26

After a tough Round 1 loss to Greenfield on Saturday, the Lady Tornadoes blew out a pair of overmatched foes in CC and McKenzie.

Sh’Nyla Moss had 19 points, and Blair McKinnis tossed in 13 in Union City’s thumping of Chester County.

Ten players dented the scoring column for the Twister girls, who sprinted to a 16-4 lead at the first-quarter horn. It was 33-18 at halftime and 48-21 with three periods in the book.

Head coach Mason Storey emptied his bench in the second half.

The circumstances were similar against McKenzie, as UC limited the Lady Rebels to just two field goals and eight points in the first half while building a commanding 22-point intermission lead.

McKinnis followed up her 13-point output from the day before with another 13 markers to top nine players in the scorebook. Moss scored 10, Allie McMillan added eight, and Addy Launer, La’Kiyah Gordon, and La’Riyah Gordon were all good for seven markers apiece.

The Lady Tornadoes made eight 3-pointers, with McKinnis sinking three and McMillan two.

BOYS

PCA 54, UC 41

Mitchell 42, UC 39

The Tornadoes’ offense went missing during critical junctures of both games against two more Memphis foes after a thrilling opening overtime triumph against East.

Union City was outscored 24-15 – making just five field goals – in the second half against PCA.  The Twisters trailed 30-26 at the half and 42-35 after three, but scored only six points over the final eight minutes.

Hollister Johnson, who earned a place on the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the event, led UC with 16 points. J.B. Thompson ended up with 10.

The Tornadoes had multiple chances at the end of Tuesday’s loss to Mitchell, but couldn’t get a big shot to fall after rallying from a seven-point deficit to within one in the waning minutes.

Union City led 10-9 at the first-quarter horn, 25-22 at halftime, with the teams even at 29 heading into the stretch run.

Thompson led the Twisters and was the only UC player in double figures with 16 markers.
