The Olympic spirit is alive and well at Union City Elementary School.
In conjunction with the ongoing Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, P.E. students at UCES have been participating in their own version of the competition.
Under the watchful eyes of teachers Russ Brown, Nelson Youngblood, and student teacher Cayden Puckett, students have shown their skills in six ‘Olympic’ events aligned to mimic competitions underway in the Games.
Using similar movements, they’ve rotated through stations for their own versions of bobsled, curling, ice skating, ski jumping, ski slalom, and biathlon.
“We talked to them about the Olympic Games beforehand, and we’ve kept the television on in the background so they could familiarize themselves with some of the rules of the particular competitions,” Brown said. “It’s been something they’ve really enjoyed, I think, and it’s been something different than the things we normally do.”
