Paris, Tenn.–A Paris man is being held in the Henry County Jail on $150,000 bond after chase late Saturday night on Hwy. 79N.
Moriel Harris was charged with felony evading arrest, reckless endangerment and various traffic offenses following the chase. He is set to appear in Henry County General Sessions Court Tuesday, February 24.
On Saturday, shortly before midnight deputies stopped a blue Lincoln sedan on Highway 79 N for various traffic violations. Upon the deputy approaching the vehicle, the driver sped away at a high rate of speed.
Deputies pursued the vehicle towards Paris before the vehicle turned around and continued to flee outbound on Highway 79 N towards Stewart County. During the duration of the chase the driver was observed throwing items from the vehicle.
The vehicle continued into Stewart County before driving off the side of the road with the driver fleeing from the vehicle on foot into a heavily wooded area. Cpl. Steve Dean and his K-9 Lincoln responded to the scene and after a brief successful track the driver was located hiding in the woods and taken into custody by deputies without incident.
The driver was identified as Moriel Harris of Paris. Harris was charged with Felony Evading Arrest, Reckless Endangerment, and various traffic offenses. Harris was given a 150,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Henry County General Sessions Court on 2-24-26.
The Henry County Sheriffs Office was assisted by the Paris Police Department and the Stewart County Sheriffs Office.
