The City of Paris Stormwater Management Department is proud to once again participate in Tennessee Tree Day with the annual Rooted in Paris Tree Day Giveaway. This community event encourages residents to plant native trees that help strengthen our local environment, improve stormwater management, and make Paris a greener place to live.
Join the city of Paris on Thursday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at the Eiffel Tower Splash Park to take part in this year’s event. A total of 400 native trees will be available, first come, first served, and attendees will also have the opportunity to learn how trees play an important role in protecting our waterways.
Trees are one of the most effective natural tools for managing stormwater. Their roots help absorb rainfall, their leaves slow down runoff, and the soil around them filters pollutants before they can reach streams and lakes. By planting trees in our yards and neighborhoods, residents can help reduce flooding, improve water quality, and support local wildlife.
This year’s giveaway will feature a variety of native species well suited for our region, including Baldcypress, Black Gum, Bur Oak, Eastern Redbud, Eastern White Pine, Elderberry, Northern Red Oak, Pecan, River Birch, and Smooth Sumac. These trees provide a range of benefits, from shade and wildlife habitat to beautiful seasonal color, and are adapted to thrive in West Tennessee’s climate.
In addition to picking up a free tree, attendees will receive information about proper planting and care to help their new tree get off to a strong start. Staff will also be available to answer questions and share tips on how planting trees can help manage stormwater and protect our local waterways.
Tennessee Tree Day is coordinated by the Tennessee Environmental Council and brings communities across the state together with a shared goal of expanding Tennessee’s tree canopy. The City of Paris is proud to be an official partner in this statewide effort and to help residents take part right here at home.
We invite everyone to stop by, take home a tree or two, and help grow a healthier, greener Paris.
