Carroll County, Tenn.–The Tennessee Highway Patrol announced this afternoon that two students have died in the crash this afternoon involving a Clarksville Montgomery County school bus, a TDOT truck and a Chevy Trailblazer.
THP Spokesperson Travis Plotzer said, “This is a parents’ worst nightmare.”
Preliminary reports are that the accident happened around noon on Hwy. 70 in Carroll County when the three vehicles collided. Plotzer said the investigation into the accident is ongoing.
School officials said a Clarksville Montgomery County School bus transporting a group of students and employees from Kenwood Middle School to Jackson for a field trip was involved in the accident.
Plotzer said two students have died. 25 students were on board the bus and five adults, he said. Seven medi-vac helicopters transported the injured to area hospitals. He thanked the community and law enforcement agencies for its outpouring of support.
Carroll County Andy Dickson asked that everyone keep the families in their prayers, along with the first responders. “Our first responders have witnessed things today that they will remember the rest of their lives,” he said.
Henry County EMS was among numberous emergency agencies that responded to the scene today, as well as the Baptist Hospital network.
School officials said earlier that school personnel are at the locations where students have been taken.
