Paris, Tenn.–Two new members were installed at the Paris Quota Club’s April meeting. Cindy Pfiffer was sponsored by Valorie Potter and Jody Robinson was sponsored by Mary Kathryn Moore. These new members will serve on the same committees as their sponsor for the first year.
Tommy and Mary Ann Claxton presented a program about the historic Paris City Cemetery and other country cemeteries.
Tommy’s mother, Jackie Claxton, was a long time member of the Quota Club and also worked on the cemetery project.
They spoke to Quotarians and guests about the cleaning and repairing of the rocks that is ongoing at Paris City Cemetery. They showed before and after slides of gravestones that had broken and were buried in the ground. The county’s Cemetery Committee cleaned/repaired the gravestones and had them standing again.
They also talked about country cemeteries that have no signs. They oversee getting the signs made and posted but stated to NEVER post a sign on a tree. They also showed pictures of the graves marked with crosses in the cemetery where residents of the county home are buried. They said there are still graves up in the woods that are not marked.
They are open to volunteers for cleaning and maintaining the stones at all cemetaries where there is no caretaker.
