Sandra K. Leach Gurley, age 79, of Buchanan, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Henry County Health and Rehab. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at McEvoy Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. Randy Stephens. Burial will follow services in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery with family members serving as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family is planned on Friday, after 12:00 p.m. until time of service.
Sandra Kaye Leach Gurley was born on July 7, 1946 in Dyer County, Tennessee to the late Woodrow Leach and the late Lorene Weaver Leach. She married J.W. Gurley, Jr. on February 5, 1965 and he survives in Westport, Tennessee. Sandra is also survived by her sons, Danny (Jennifer) Gurley of Westport and Tim (Linda) Gurley of Dyersburg; grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Whitfield, Daniel (Melissa) Gurley, and Hunter (Hannah) Gurley; and by great-grandchildren, Jayden Gurley, Dillon Whitfield, Macey Whitfield, and Lillian Frazier.
Besides her parents, Sandra is also preceded in death by her sisters, Doris McManis and Paulette Sewell; brothers, Jimmy Leach, Harry Leach, and Jack Leach; and also by her beloved pet “Petey Bird”.
Mrs. Gurley was a graduate of Rutherford High School. She attended the Church of Christ in Dyersburg and Sulphur Well Church of Christ in Springville. She was a homemaker, worked for Sulphur Well Church as bookkeeper, also worked alongside her husband, J.W. as owner/operator of their rental properties. Sandra enjoyed sewing, hunting, and in her younger days she was an active member of an all women’s bowling league.
