The Henry County Historical Society will have its regular quarterly meeting on Thursday, August 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center, 614 North Poplar St. in Paris, Tenn, according to a news release from President David Webb. Masks or other face coverings are recommended, and physical distancing will be implemented. For those who prefer an online option, the gathering will also be held via Zoom. The Zoom link and passcode are:
Passcode: 3cwXR2
Society members and visitors will be updated on the status of the restoration of our 1927 American LaFrance fire engine and new artifacts to our collection, including a People’s Healing Liniment bottle from the Paris Medicine Co. Those attending will be briefed on the new Paris-Henry County 200 committee. This committee will be seeking ideas and volunteers to help our community celebrate its bicentennial from November, 2021 through September, 2023. Come to the meeting with your ideas for how we can remember our past, celebrate our present, and prepare for our future. In addition, the group will learn about new acquisitions and plans for the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center.
It is time to elect officers for the 2020-2021 fiscal year. Our current officers and directors are:
President David Webb
1st Vice President Mike Garner
2nd Vice President Pete Lackey
Secretary-Treasurer Rick Owens
Director Ray Harding
Director Bill Harber
Director Barton Robison
Rick Owens is not seeking the office of Secretary-Treasurer for our next fiscal year. Rick has been my right arm, and he will certainly be missed in this position. The Secretary-Treasurer position may be split into separate offices. Due to Barton Robison’s death several weeks ago, his position will need to be filled as well. If you are interested in serving the historical society as the secretary, treasurer (or secretary-treasurer) or as a member of the board of directors, please let me know.
I have attached a copy of the historical society’s bylaws. If you have any recommendations for changes, please let me know, and we will vote on changes to the bylaws at our November meeting.
Annual dues will be collected at the August meeting:
• $10 for an individual membership
• $25 for an immediate family membership
• $100 for a lifetime membership
Please make checks to the Henry County Historical Society.
We look forward to your attendance on August 6th either in person or online.
