Mayfield, Ky.–The Graves County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on its missing person investigation into the March 2018 disappearance of Samantha Sperry, who was then 25 years old.
The missing person investigation was initially opened in March 2018 after she was reported as missing by her mother.
A large rural remote area in and around the Kaler bottoms area of Graves County has been searched multiple times by law enforcement and first responder agencies, volunteers, friends, and family. Horseback, ATV’s, and K-9’s have all been utilized in these searches.
According to a press release from Sheriff Jon Hayden, “Exactly one year to the day of her disappearance, the Graves County Sheriff’s Office presented this case and all subsequent investigation to a multitude of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies on March 27, 2019 at a briefing held at a Mayfield location.
“The agencies attending included the FBI, representatives from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Kentucky, prosecutors from the Graves County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Graves County Attorney’s Office, crime analysists, Kentucky State Police Crime Lab personnel, KSP investigators, and several of the areas most seasoned detectives in criminal investigations.
“A methodical examination of our on-going investigation was requested by our agency in an effort to pull in all available resources, not only locally, but on the state and federal levels as well, and to simply have fresh sets of eyes review what has or had not been done.
“Invaluable assistance has been received from many of the agencies, including but not limited to: assistance in interviewing, and on some cases re-interviewing witnesses, or persons of interest in this case, a detailed and methodical review of all electronic evidence and data, and laboratory analysis of evidence submitted.
“Thousands of documented man hours have been expended on the searches and investigation into Samantha Sperry’s disappearance.
“In an effort to not compromise the integrity of the ongoing investigation, more specific details cannot be released at this time.”
Hayden said, “We have and will continue to update the family as the case continues to be an open investigation.”
