Paris, Tenn.–A fire contained to a patient room at Henry County Medical Center’s Lake Haven behavioral unit caused evacuations of patients from the facility Saturday morning.
Hospital CEO Lisa Casteel said, “Minimal damage is reported, but for the safety of our behavioral health unit patients, we are transferring them to other facilities or discharging those patients who are ready for discharge to their families. Currently, Lake Haven Behavioral Unit is closed to any admissions until an assessment can be completed of the unit to ensure patient safety and security. This only impacts our behavioral health unit patients.”
Casteel said hospital officials “are extremely grateful that no patients were harmed in this incident. We continue to investigate the incident and assess the behavioral health unit before we open it back to patients. We are thankful and grateful for our staff and the Paris Fire Department for their quick response and will work with the Paris Police Department regarding the incident.”
The other floor of the unit will not be opened due to the proximity and smoke in the unit. All family members of our patients will be notified.
