Fort Donelson Memorial Day To Feature “Taps Across America”

ft-d-graves

Dover, Tenn.–For this Memorial Day, the traditional observance normally held at the Fort Donelson National Cemetery will take place at the Stewart County Visitor Center in conjunction with the Traveling Korean War Memorial, on display from Saturday, May 29 through the Memorial Day holiday.
According to Fort Donelson Superintendent Brian McCutchen, “We encourage those that may traditionally attend the ceremony at the Fort Donelson National Cemetery to do so at this year’s temporary location.”
Attendees at this year’s location will have the opportunity to pay honor as a community to those that died while in the service of our nation, as well as have the ability to observe, learn, and reflect at the special Korean War memorial that will be in place. The Stewart County Visitor Center is located at 117 National Cemetery Drive, Dover.
At the Fort Donelson National Cemetery, Memorial Day observances will be of a much smaller scale, yet fully appropriate to honor and reflect upon those interred at the national cemetery that have died in military service to the United States.
According to Superintendent McCutchen, “A wreath will be placed at 11:30 a.m., and at 3:00 p.m. a lone bugler will play Taps as part of a nationwide “Taps Across America,” when Americans are asked to pause and reflect upon those who died in the service to our nation, as well as to honor those wo are on our front lines today.
Whether attending the community event at the Stewart County Visitor Center, observing the solemn wreath laying or playing of Taps at the Fort Donelson National Cemetery, or whether pausing wherever one might feel so moved, we at Fort Donelson encourage everyone to reflect and remember on this Memorial Day.
