New Concord Man Charged In Assault On Deputy

Murray, Ky.–A New Concord man has been charged with an assault on an officer –plus numerous other charges–after a pursuit in Calloway County.
James Swindle, age 43, of New Concord, Kentucky was charged with 1st Degree Fleeing or Evading Police in a Motor Vehicle, 2nd Degree Fleeing or Evading Police on Foot, 3rd Degree Assault of a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, 1st Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and various traffic related offenses.
After his arrest, deputies determined Swindle had a warrant of arrest from Christian County for probation violation and had been a fugitive for approximately nine months. That warrant was also served, charging him with Probation Violation for Felony Offense. Swindle is lodged in the Calloway County Jail.
According to the press release from the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, July 5, 2021 at approximately 10 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputy J. Hayden observed a vehicle on Kline Trail traveling without any headlight/taillights on.
Upon Deputy Hayden activating his emergency equipment in attempt to stop the vehicle, the operator of the vehicle accelerated. Following a brief vehicle pursuit, the vehicle exited the roadway into a field. The operator of the vehicle then fled on foot and was apprehended by pursuing deputies.
During the apprehension, the operator of the vehicle resisted arrest and assaulted a deputy. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in the vehicle.
