Paris, Tenn.–At its July meeting Tuesday, the Paris Utility Authority Board accepted the low bid of $182,385 from Birmingham Control Systems for construction of the Eagle Creek Substation Relay and Control House.

Four bids were opened on July 6 and the bids ranged from $182,385 to $204,447. The bids were evaluated by Fisher & Arnold, the engineering consultant on the project and Paris BPU and the Birmingham bid was recommended.

In the President’s report, Utility CEO Terry Wimberley noted the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in and around Henry County. He said Paris BPU continues to monitor the situation and will make changes as appropriate.

In other business, the board approved the purchase of a 2022 Mack GR84F Tri Axel Dump Truck. Wimberley said the new truck would be replacing a 19-year-old truck with mechanical issues currently being used by the Wastewater Department. The purchase will be completed through a cooperative purchasing contract and will be purchased from Tri-State Truck Center in Jackson.

The Board approved a motion for Paris BPU to participate in the Safety Partners Matching Grant Program. Paris BPU applies for this grant annually and uses these funds to assist with the purchasing pf safety equipment vital to ensuring Paris BPU employees can continue providing reliable utility services to Paris and Henry County safely.

Wimberley introduced his employee guest, Tim Wills. Tim serves as the Working Foreman for Right of Way and has been with the utility since June of 1998 when he was hired on in the same role he is currently serving in today.
