
The Dixie’s Education Series Creates an Entertaining Spin on Learning
Step out of the classroom for a unique opportunity to learn a variety of subjects ranging from science to hip hop as The Dixie welcomes the highly anticipated Education Series to their stage once again! The series will begin October 27, 2021, and run through May 4, 2022, with 6 outstanding shows to delight and engage students ranging from PreK to 12th grade.
SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE!, Wednesday, October 27, 2021 – Academic subjects will never seem boring again when presented through megahits like “Conjunction Junction,” “Just a Bill,” “Interplanet Janet” or “Three is a Magic Number.” Schoolhouse Rock explodes onto the stage with songs you loved updated for a whole new generation!
DOKTOR KABOOM! LOOK OUT! SCIENCE IS COMING!, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 – The good Doktor takes his audience on an educational tour of the modern scientific method, using humor and comedy while demonstrating spectacular applications of the physical sciences. Topics will include: safety, pressure and force, simple machines, velocity, mass and how these apply to everyday life… plus many, many more!
ROSA PARKS AND FRIENDS, Thursday, January 27, 2022 – Take a journey through time with Rosa Parks where some of the most remarkable figures from history come to life. Meet abolitionists like Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, and Civil Rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.! This show gives a view of the challenges met by these amazing Black Americans while showcasing the triumphant power of the human spirit shown by these true heroes of history.
CHARLOTTE’S WEB, Friday, February 25, 2022 – Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman. She will create a “miracle.” Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig but also ensures his place on the farm forever.
THE REMINDERS, Tuesday, March 8, 2022 – The Reminders’ visionary music is infused with roots, soul and Colorado sunshine! The duo seamlessly blends sharp rhymes and soulful vocals with reggae-tinged hip-hop beats to highlight relevant and inspiring messages of unity and togetherness.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND, Wednesday, May 4, 2022 – When Alice escapes her boredom to venture into a dream, madcap high jinks and outlandish adventures are the order of the day. Lavishly costumed characters and giant puppets whirl, dance and sing on their journey through Lewis Carroll’s land of fantasy. The heroine learns it takes self-reliance and quick thinking to tame the comic nonsense of the unpredictable residents
Now in its 16th Season, The Dixie has presented almost 300 education performances to over 96,000 children. The Education Series is designed to introduce students to theatre, inspire imagination and reinforce the Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP). All shows come complete with downloadable study guides courtesy of The Dixie to help students prepare and get the most out of their learning experience.
The Dixie’s Education Series is funded in part by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission. As a result, your class could be eligible for the Tennessee Arts Commission Student Ticket Subsidy Program. Applications open Thursday, August 12, 2021. Each show will have two performances, 9am and 11am. Tickets to Education Series shows are $8 per seat.
