Childress Named Bethel Assistant Sports Info Director

MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Bethel Sports Information Director Dave McCulley announced Tuesday Austin Childress has been named Assistant Sports Information Director at the university. 

Childress is a Bethel graduate and former member of the Bethel Cross Country and Track teams. Austin was named Bethel University Athlete of the Year during his career. He was also named SSAC Newcomer of the Year and a Champions of Character recipient. Austin holds several school cross country records in multiple event. He later served as a student assistant with both squads under Head Coach Brandon Kilburn.

Childress most recently was a graduate assistant under Associate Athletic Director Brad Chappell. He was in charge of ticketing operations for all sports, including managing inventory, seating, delivering tickets, finances and customer service. He also aided in facilitating and managing tours for prospective student athletes. 

Austin is a native of Madisonville, Kentucky and a graduate of Hopkins County Central High School.  

McCulley commented on the new assistant. “We are really pleased to have Austin join our office. He is a very talented young man and has a goal to excel in the field of sports administration. He has great communication and computer skills. We feel very fortunate to have him and I look forward to working with him.” 

Childress replaces Zach O’Kelley who has been named Sports Information Director at Tennessee Southern, formerly Martin Methodist College.
