Union City, Tenn.–Who doesn’t love a good scary story?
English honors students at Union City High School told several tales of horror with spooky twists, creepy turns, and super-natural details to the remainder of the student body Friday as part of the celebration of Halloween at UCHS.
The themed performances were part of an assigned project of those in the classes of Joanna Wisener, Angelique Killebrew and Eddie Suiter.
There were three separate performing locations in the school with six groups of students telling different spooky stories at each venue.
Students read stories in class before then discussing them in-depth. There were writing assignments and other small-group activities before the stories were adapted to fit the scripts for the performances.
Wisener declared herself pleased with the final product.
“I thought our kids showed wonderful creativity and imagination,” Wisener said. “From the students who were in charge of the props to the performers, everyone was invested in their task and did a great job.
“That the entire student body was able to watch and be entertained was a great reward for everyone.”
An old UCHS Halloween tradition was resurrected this year, too, with a literary pumpkin decoration contest.
Elizabeth Lattus won first place with her Alice in Wonderland entry. Jesse Amesquita took second with his version of R2/D-2, and Bailey Wagoner was third with the Rainbow Fish.
There were 40 entries in all.
