
Did you feel it?
The USGS is reporting a 4.0 magnitude earthquake 12 miles northwest of Poplar Bluff, Mo., which was felt all the way in northwest Tennessee. It struck at 8:53 p.m. last night.
According to the USGS, the earthquake is connected with the New Madrid fault and it was an unusually strong one for our area. The quake originally was designated as a 3.7 magnitude, but just a few minutes later was upgraded to a 4.0.
Numerous people in our area–from Union City to Paris–reported feeling it strongly last night. Some people as far away as Memphis also felt it.
