Paris, Tenn.–A Buchanan man was found deceased next to his vehicle on Hwy. 79N and investigators have determined he died of an accident gunshot wound.
Henry County Sheriff’s Investigator Gary Vandiver said at around 6:34 p.m. Sunday, December 5, a 911 call was received reporting an injured person on the road in the area of 10030 Hwy. 79N.
“It was at first believed that the person had been hit by a vehicle,” according to the press release.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Henry County Emergency Medical Services responded.
Initial investigation found that the person, identified as Johnny Leon Diven, 51 years of age, of Buchanan was deceased lying behind his vehicle which was parked on the side of Hwy 79N. Diven was found to have a gunshot wound.
An investigation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division with the assistance of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. All evidence, including surveillance footage, from a nearby business indicates that Diven died from an accidental gunshot.
