Union City, Tenn.–It’s four and counting for the Union City girls.

The Lady Tornadoes ran their winning streak to four with a 38-27 victory over St. Benedict in Memphis Tuesday night.

Now 5-2 on the season, UC will look to continue its early-season success against a favorable schedule Saturday afternoon in Jackson with a rematch against Madison Academic. The Twister girls routed MA last Saturday 56-9 and have notched four of their five wins on the road.

Amari Bonds (15) and Sophie Theobald (13) combined for 28 of Union City’s 38 points Tuesday against SB. Khia German tossed in seven.

Bonds sank three of her team’s five 3-pointers, while Theobald was 4-of-5 from the free throw line.

The Lady Tornadoes led 9-6 after one, 20-9 at the half, and were comfortably ahead, 31-16, heading into the final frame.

UC’s boys were on the wrong end of a 76-53 blowout in the nightcap.

A slow start coupled with subpar shooting and turnovers proved to be the undoing for the Tornadoes, who fell to 4-3.

Union City was missing frontcourt starter Jaylen Lewis due to injury while leading scorer Malaki Brooks saw only limited minutes because of an injury.

The Twisters fell behind immediately in Tuesday’s contest, trailing 20-11 at the first-quarter horn. It was 39-20 at the half, and UC trailed by as many as 30 points after the intermission.

D.J. Robinson was the only Tornado to score in double figures, finishing with 15 markers. Joseph Lattus was next on the points list with eight.

Saturday’s doubleheader against MA in Jackson is set to begin at 2 p.m.
