
Graves County, Tenn.–A Mayfield man wanted on five arrest warrants led law enforcement on a pursuit which moved from Graves County into Calloway County in Kentucky and into Henry and Weakley County in Tennessee Friday afternoon. The fugitive drove through yards, through a fence and a field.
According to Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden, on Friday afternoon at approx 2:25 p.m., Sgt. Richard Edwards was on patrol on Ky Hwy 564 near Farmington and observed a vehicle travelling in excess of 90 mph.
As Sgt. Edwards was able to catch up to the vehicle, he determined that the vehicle was registered to a man wanted on numerous outstanding charges including bail jumping, for a total five arrest warrants.
The suspect vehicle (2013 White Kia Optima) refused to stop. The pursuit continued into Calloway County, and then back into Graves County, and into the Bell City area, then into Henry County Tennesse, ending up in Weakley County Tennessee.
The suspect drove through residential yards, through a fence and into a field. The driver then exited the vehicle and ran into a harvested cornfield. Sgt. Edwards then pursued the suspect on foot for approx 400 yards before apprehending him and taking him into custody.
The driver was identified as being 51 year old James T. Dowdy of Mayfield, Ky.
He was taken into custody at the scene by the Weakley County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Weakley County Detention Center.
Dowdy will be extradited back to Kentucky to answer to the outstanding charges dealing with the 5 active warrants, in addition to being charged with the following:
Speeding / Reckless Driving / Wanton Endangerment / Criminal Mischief / Fleeing or Evading / and other charges.
