Springville, Tenn.–On the same day that Henry County Emergency Management officials warned the public not to conduct outdoor burning today due to dry and windy conditions, firefighters from the Oakland and Springville Volunteer Fire Departments, along with the Forestry Service responded to a large brush fire that was out of control.
Emergency Management had issued a warning: “Dry air remains in place over the Mid-South this morning. As a result, low relative humidity values, gusty winds, and dry vegetation will produce critical fire weather conditions this afternoon. Brush fires will spread rapidly.”
At 1:37 p.m., Oakland firefighters joined the Springville VFD in the 9000 block of Elkhorn Road in Springville where they found the out of control fire.
Firefighters were on the scene for some three hours.
