Mr. Ernest Eugene McCray, 90 of Lumberton, N.C., passed away March 17, 2022 at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton, N.C.
Ernest was born September 2, 1931, the son of the late Frank and Matilda Scrithfield McCray. Ernest proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., during his time of active duty. He was a faithful servant, a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Lumberton, N.C. He enjoyed collecting and restoring John Deere tractors in his past time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary McCray, son Tony McCray, one grandchild, and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Betty McCray of Lumberton, N.C., sons: Steve (Dee) McCray of Lumberton, N.C., Bud (Mary) McCray of Clarksville, Tenn.; daughters: Kathy (David) Kendrick of Hickory, Tenn., Kristi Patterson of Clarksville, Tenn.; sisters: Judy Porter, of Cumberland, Md., Dorothy McCray, of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 28, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Ft. Donelson National Cemetery, Dover, Tenn., with full military honors.
