The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball squad got back to its winning ways today on the first day of the Govs Beach Bash, dispatching Eastern Kentucky (4-1) and Jacksonville State (5-0) in convincing fashion.

With the two triumphs this afternoon, the Skyhawks improved to 12-5 – establishing a new school record for most wins in a single season (previously 10 in 2021).

Four different UT Martin pairs went unbeaten today. The No. 1 team of Dylan Mott/Karen Scanlon, No. 3 duo of Haeleigh Paulino/Logan Wallick, No. 4 tandem of Kayla Carrell/Addison Conley and No. 5 squad of Brooke Kuball/Addy Vaughn each went 2-0 while the Skyhawks’ No. 2 team of Kambree Lucas/Hannah Phillips added a win against Jacksonville State.

Kuball/Vaughn ensured that UT Martin got started off on the right foot against Eastern Kentucky, racing out to a quick 21-9, 21-11 victory. The Skyhawks went up 2-0 following a Carrell/Conley 21-15, 21-10 triumph and officially clinched the match with a dominant 21-8, 21-18 victory from Paulino/Wallick.

UT Martin tacked on another win for good measure when Mott/Scanlon gutted out a come-from-behind 18-21, 21-17, 15-12 victory.

Playing the second of back-to-back matches in the tournament, the Skyhawks showed little fatigue against the Gamecocks. Carrell/Conley managed their sixth straight victory with a 21-18, 21-11 win and was followed by a 21-11, 21-13 triumph by Kuball/Vaughn. For the second straight match, Paulino/Wallick provided the clinching point after a 21-10, 21-16 win.

Lucas/Phillips earned a hard-fought 18-21, 23-21, 15-5 victory before Mott/Scanlon were triumphant in another marathon match – coming out on top of a 26-28, 23-21, 15-8 decision.

The University of Tennessee at Martin beach volleyball team held a 2-1 lead through three decisions today against Austin Peay but the host Governors stormed back for a 3-2 win on the final day of the Govs Beach Bash.

The Skyhawks (12-6) claimed wins at No. 4 and No. 3 this afternoon as Kayla Carrell/Addison Conley extended their winning streak out to seven matches out of the No. 4 slot. Haeleigh Paulino/Logan Wallick also pushed their season record out to 13-4 at No. 3 before Austin Peay escaped with the win.

After Brooke Kuball/Addy Vaughn battled but fell 21-11, 23-21 at No. 5 to start today’s match, Carrell/Conley outlasted their competition with a 13-21, 21-18, 15-8 victory to even the score at 1-all. That victory improved Carrell and Conley’s season record to a remarkable 17-1, as they now hold a program record for most single-season victories by a UT Martin pair (previously held by Paulino/Wallick in 2021).

Once the second wave of matches started, the Skyhawks raced out to a 2-1 advantage after Paulino/Wallick came out on top of a 21-19, 21-13 decision.

However, the Governors regained momentum with wins in the final two matchups of the afternoon. UT Martin’s final two pairs gave it their all but Kambree Lucas/Hannah Phillips fell 21-15, 21-18 at No. 2 while the Skyhawk No. 1 team of Dylan Mott/Karen Scanlon was defeated 21-14, 21-19.

UT Martin concludes the regular season on April 22-23 when it heads back to Clarksville for the second Ohio Valley Conference weekend of 2022. The Skyhawks – who sit atop the OVC standings at 4-0 – will square off against Austin Peay (10:30 a.m.) and Morehead State (4:30 p.m.) on Friday before taking on Eastern Illinois (10:30 a.m.) and Chattanooga (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
