WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association unveiled its 2022-23 Ariat All-Americans today as University of Tennessee at Martin standouts Logan Putvinski and Julia Gilman each received top billing for their season-long performances. Putvinski was named to the All-American reining second team while Gilman earned an All-American fences honorable mention nod.

Putvinski becomes only the fourth Skyhawk to bring home NCEA All-American accolades in reining, joining Madeline Williams (2018), current UT Martin graduate assistant Noel Meadows (2018-19, 2021) and Hannah McDonald (2021). Meanwhile, Gilman is now part of an exclusive list that includes Kara Bergenty (2012-13) and Abbie Hopkins (2018, 2020) as the only riders in school history to secure an All-American award in multiple events during a career.

In order to receive the title of All-American, a rider must have a 67 percent or higher winning percentage (excluding ties), compete in a minimum of 67 percent of the team’s NCEA-qualifying regular season meets and have an adjusted NRS score of 90 for fences, 85 for flat, 80 for horsemanship and 75 for reining.

A sophomore out of Knoxville, Tenn., Putvinski was rock-solid in the Skyhawk reining lineup. One of five members on the All-American second team, she ranked first on the UT Martin squad in wins (seven) and regular season scoring average (70.4). An All-Eastern College Athletic Conference performer, she also was responsible for one MOP – a 70-point effort against then-No. 6 (and eventual Southeastern Conference champion) Auburn on Oct. 22. She closed out the fall with an ECAC Rider of the Week accolade on Oct. 25 before enjoying a big spring semester, setting career-highs with 74 points during road meets at No. 8 Baylor (Jan. 27) and South Dakota State (March 1).

One year after she claimed All-American status in flat, Gilman’s senior campaign in fences was dominant to say the least as she was one of eight student-athletes to earn a spot on the honorable mention list. The Barrington, Ill. native generated All-ECAC honors in fences after topping the Skyhawks with 10 wins (in 14 chances), two MOP’s (career-high 88 points against No. 7 South Carolina on Oct. 28; 84 points against Bridgewater on March 10) and a 79.2 regular season scoring average. She chalked up ECAC Fences Rider of the Month honors in October and was a two-time ECAC Fences Rider of the Week during the spring semester (Jan. 31, March 14).

This duo helped guide UT Martin to an undefeated record in the ECAC regular season standings before finishing the 2022-23 season with the program’s third consecutive ECAC reserve championship under head coach Kim Leiter.
