Mr. James Smith, 83, of Indian Mound, Tennessee, was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Henry County Medical Center.
He was born Sunday, October 22, 1939, in Indian Mound, Tennessee, the beloved son of the late Alvin Pete and Beulah Norfleet Smith. He was born the same day the first NFL game was televised when NBC aired a game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Philadelphia Eagles to a local audience.
James was a hard worker and provider. He retired from TDOT as a truck driver.
James also enjoyed working on his farm and raising a garden.
He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Indian Mound, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Raymond Smith, Aaron Smith, Bill Smith, Thurston Smith, and George “Peewee” Elliott; and sister: Mary Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years: Helen Dunaway Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at Smith, Austin, Wallace Cemetery, Indian Mound, Tennessee, with Bro. Joe Shannon officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
