Beard Adds To Medal Stash For UC Cross Country

Ainsley Beard continued her streak of strong showings, earning a medal with an 11th-place finish in the Tomcat Invitational in Brownville for the Union City Middle School girls’ cross country program on Monday.

Beard, a regular in the medal standings all season for the Lady Tornadoes, was timed at 16:14 in the two-mile race that included 95 runners.

Phoebe Coleman finished 26th, clocked at 18:35 for UC.

Wrigley Harder had the best time of five Twister boys, coming in at 15:55 to place 30th out of 121 competitors.

Nash Norsworthy (16:08) placed 35th.

Other times for UC included Will D. McKinnis (16:33), Kipton Powers (16:56), and Walton Harder (22:49).

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

Union City will now turn its attention to the District 14A Tournament after finishing the regular season on Monday with a match against Trinity Christian Academy at Humboldt.

UC’s girls were edged 81-85, while the Tornado boys finished 17 shots (160-177) behind TCA.

Mimi Jenkins posted a solid 39 for the Twister girls, with teammate Addy Rice coming in with a 46.

On the boys’ side, Reese Paschall shot 39, Brody Riley registered a 41, Gavin McGuire finished with a 48, and Copeland Chism carded a 49.

Persimmon Hills Golf Club in Sharon will host the 18-hole district tournament next Monday.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Huntingdon 3, UC 1

Union City squared Monday’s match with the Fillies after winning game 2, 25-21, but came out on the short end when Huntingdon triumphed in Games 3 and 4, 25-20 and 25-15.

Gracelyn Sims had eight blocks and five kills for the Lady Tornadoes, while Debrionna Jones posted 11 blocks and two kills. Addison Carr was good for five kills and three service aces, and Bryonna Billups had four aces.

UC’s jayvee team fell in three games, 25-23, 18-25, and 10-15.

Allysia Davis had eight kills and three blocks for the Twisters. Crickett Washburn finished with 13 assists and four aces, and Ca’Lae Ervin had five kills.

Now 3-9 in varsity play, Union City will host Ripley and Henry County in a tri-match today.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

Dresden 10, UC 0

Union City saw its six-game winning streak end against a strong Lady Lion squad that pounded out 10 hits.

Annie Beth Cruce had UC’s only base knock.

Dresden scored four times in the first and second innings.

Hadley Smith was the losing pitcher after surrendering nine earned runs.

Union City is now 10-7 on the season and will play its final home game Thursday vs. South Fulton. The Lady Tornadoes will begin postseason play Saturday morning at Milan.
