Union City, Tenn.–Members of the Union City Schools Leadership Innovation Team are building relationships that could pay off handsomely in the future.
The group – made up of a dozen students from the high school and middle school – recently spent the day at Twin Oaks Technology, where they were educated on the services the business provides locally and nationally.
During the in-depth business tour, students were educated on IT technology, web design content, digital marketing, multiple social media platforms, and software designs. They also learned about mobile apps.
In-person conversations with different members of the TOT team, as well as virtual discussions, proved both enlightening and helpful. In the virtual meetings, a company’s CEO, Mark Bondurant, walked students through a Florida business and shared multiple contributions from Twin Oaks that were incorporated into their factory.
Included were the usage of personalized apps, design, and coding components that created efficiency in their production line.
Students were also introduced to three other employees who work virtually from home in other states and focus on web development, media arts, and digital marketing.
The Union City LIT contingent included Gavin Morgan, Jacob Arnold, Zach Davidson, Foster Rodgers, Addison Carr, Debrionna Jones, and Chloe Hubbard. Others involved were Montichello Dale, Lyndsey Del Valle, Nakyah Yarbrough, Molly Kizer, and Trinity Lockridge.
UCHS Career Counselor Lisa Carson and Chamber of Commerce representatives Lyndsay Frilling and Rachael McKinney accompanied the group, which was escorted on the Twin Oaks tour by employees Nichole Kincade, Suzanne Harper, Charlene Burpo, and Brad Norsworthy.
“I feel the trip was enlightening to the students because it made them aware of job opportunities in our community that many had no idea even existed,” Carson said. “Also, the students were intrigued by the wide range of positions, the ability for ‘at-home’ employment, and the option to travel around the United States.
“As always, it is wonderful to establish a networking relationship between our schools and the community. It is encouraging for our students to be exposed to great employment opportunities right here in our city.”
