Union City, Tenn.–Three persons will be inducted into the Union City High School Hall of Honors Tuesday night at Marty Sisco Gymnasium.
Tennis player Laura Gilliam Norris, head football coach Darren Bowling, and basketball player Donte Simpson will join the prestigious fraternity during ceremonies between games when Union City entertains Henry County for a basketball doubleheader.
Laura is a 1989 UCHS graduate and ranks No. 2 all-time in Lady Tornado program tennis history with 115 career wins. All of those triumphs came at either the number-one or two-seed in singles and doubles play.
Bowling led the Tornado football team to four state championships during his 12-year stint that began in 2008. Union City won Class 1 A state titles in 2009 and in back-to-back years in 2013 and 2014. The Twister won the Class 2A championship in 2017.
His all-time record at UCHS was 116-38, and his .752 winning percentage is the best of any coach in program history.
Simpson went on to play collegiately at Elizabethtown Community College and then for four years at Avila University in Kansas City after a stellar prep playing career at UCHS.
He is a 2015 Union City High School graduate and was a member of the Tornadoes’ 2015 state runner-up team.
The ceremonies, along with both ends of the basketball doubleheader, will be live-streamed on Froggy 99.3’s YouTube channel and the RadioNWTN website.
