Whitlock, Tenn.–A combine was heavily damaged in a fire Wednesday afternoon. The Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire Department was called to the middle of a field off of Whitlock Rd. around 4:15p.m. and found the combine “burning pretty good” upon their arrival, according to Fire Chief John Weiher.

Cottage Grove station firefighters were joined with personnel from the airport and Whitlock stations at the fire.

The owner of the combine, Daniel Miller, had already been dousing what he could with his fire extinguisher and water jug, Weiher said. He was not injured.

Weiher said the fire started in the engine compartment and he estimated the fire caused some $35,000 damage.

“We confined it to the engine compartment”, he said, noting the firefighters were on scene for some 90 minutes.
