The death toll from the recent winter storm in Tennessee has risen sharply, according to the latest update from the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA).
On Thursday evening, TEMA reported 12 confirmed weather-related deaths. But as of 8:20 p.m. Saturday, that number has climbed to 21 fatalities linked to the severe weather, spread across several counties:
• 1 in Cheatham County
• 3 in Davidson County
• 1 in Fayette County
• 2 in Hardin County
• 1 in Haywood County
• 2 in Henderson County
• 2 in Hickman County
• 1 in Knox County
• 2 in Obion County
• 6 in Shelby County
Separately, officials in Metro Nashville mentioned on Friday that there could be up to five additional weather-related deaths in the area—including a 92-year-old and a 79-year-old—but state authorities have not yet officially confirmed these as weather-related.
The surge highlights the storm’s deadly impact, with many deaths likely tied to issues like power outages, hazardous conditions, or related accidents. Stay safe out there.
