Linda “Sue” Barnett Applegate, age 81, of Bruceton, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Huntingdon Health and Rehab. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at McEvoy Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. Randy Stephens. Burial will follow services in Olive Branch Cemetery. Ms. Applegate’s family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family is planned after 12:00 noon on Wednesday until time of service.
Linda “Sue” was born September 2, 1944, in Henry County, Tennessee, to the late James Ellis and the late Opal Townsend Barnett. She married Larence Dewayne Applegate on October 7, 1982, and he preceded her in death on May 8, 2012. Sue is survived by her daughter, Amanda Simmons of Norwich, Kansas; sons, James (Teresa) Speer, of Bruceton, Tennessee and Jeffrey (Marilyn) Speer of Missouri; by ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; also by nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Sue is also preceded in death by her sisters, Frankie Lewis and Juanita Bomar; and her brother, Sonny Barnett.
Ms. Applegate was a Baptist by faith. She was a graduate of Cottage Grove High School where she played basketball. Sue enjoyed gardening and most especially her roses. She formerly worked as a nurse and was known for her compassion in caring for people. Sue had a wonderful sense of humor, loved spending time with her family and adored her grandchildren.
