Saying ‘thank-you’ is among the many lessons learned at Union City Elementary School.
Students recently put that exercise to good use while expressing their appreciation to members of the UC School Board.
In conjunction with School Board Appreciation Week in Tennessee, each of the seven Union City Board of Education members had a book donated to the elementary school library in their honor.
Additionally, the board members received homemade cards, notes, and other keepsakes designed by students and Principal Allison Palmer, thanking them for their continuous support of UC Schools and its students.
“Our school board is simply the best, and we wanted to let them know how thankful we are for them,” Palmer said, while watching a handful of students make a formal presentation to four board members in the UCES library. “They do an amazing job of supporting our faculty and staff throughout each of our endeavors, and much of our success can be traced to them and their efforts.
“They are a unique collection of caring people who provide us with everything we need to be successful in the education of our students.”
Palmer said she hoped the gesture would be a continuous reminder to all involved of the board’s support.
“It was important to me that the kids do something special to let our board members know how much we appreciate them and their efforts to make sure things always go smoothly,” she added. “And I think the students had a good time making the special treats to show that.”
The UC School Board is made up of Chairman Cathy Waggoner, Vice Chairman Scott Gilliam, Dr. John Clendenin, Rev. Curtis McLendon, Bedford Dunavant, Seth Rhenberg, and Linda Graham.
