Bethel’s Matthew Holt Begins Next Chapter

matthew-holt

McKenzie, Tenn.–For nearly 18 years, Matthew Holt has faithfully served the Renaissance Program at Bethel University, helping shape it into one of the most vibrant and innovative performing arts experiences in the nation.

Matthew now begins a new season of ministry at First Baptist Church of Martin, Tennessee, while continuing his professional work as a pianist and producer and investing in his family—his wife Lindsey and their four children: Fletcher, Ridley, Carver, and Mary Mae.
Matthew’s journey with Renaissance began as Associate Director of the Vocal Program, where his leadership and musical excellence quickly made an impression. He later served as Associate Creative Director, before being named Executive Director in 2014, a role in which he faithfully led the program for more than a decade with a steady hand and a deep commitment to its mission.
Reflecting on his time at Bethel, Matthew shared:
“The last (almost) 18 years of serving the Renaissance Program at Bethel University has been very special, and we will always be grateful for our time here and the countless memories that we will carry in our hearts forever! It has truly been an honor to be a part of such a special program and to see so many lives changed (including our own) as a result of the work that’s being done.”
During his tenure, Matthew provided leadership to an estimated 1,500 students and helped guide a program that presented more than 100 performances annually. He also directed and traveled extensively with Renaissance groups throughout the United States and internationally, including the Philippines and Colombia. These countless rehearsals, performances, and travel opportunities became part of a larger legacy—one defined by opportunity, growth, and meaningful experiences for the students who passed through Renaissance.
Newly named Interim Executive Director Dr. Scott Shepherd shared:
“Matthew’s incredible musicianship is widely known—he is truly a prodigy—but what many may not see is the steadiness he has brought to Renaissance through many seasons of growth and change. The way he has consistently advocated for the program—its staff and its students—is a testament to his care and belief in its mission. His influence on Renaissance will prove invaluable as the program moves into the future.”
