The Region 7-2A Tournament brackets are officially set, and both Union City basketball teams face long weekend road trips in their first round games.

The Lady Tornadoes, who finished in third place in District 14, will make the two-hour journey to Scotts Hill on Friday for a 6 o’clock quarterfinal matchup with the Lions. Scotts Hill will come into the contest with a 10-10 record after placing second in the District 13 tournament, while UC is 15-13 and has won six of its last seven games.

The winner will advance to a Monday night regional semifinal matchup at Martin Westview, against the survivor of the JCM-Westview quarterfinal game. The girls’ Region 7-2A championship contest is set for next Wednesday at 7, with both the winner and runner-up then moving on to Saturday’s sectional.

Union City’s boys, meanwhile, will travel to Jackson for their regional quarterfinal game Saturday night at 6, facing District 13 champion Jackson Central-Merry.

The Twisters beat Gibson County last week to earn their regional berth before then losing to Westview and Ripley in the semifinals and finals of the District 14 tournament.

UC will come into the contest with an 11-17 record, while JCM is 13-9, having won seven straight. The winner will play in next Tuesday’s Region semis, with a spot in Thursday’s tourney title game at stake.

Completed brackets are attached.
