Stewart County, Tenn.–Stewart County Fire & Rescue crews recently performed a unique rescue of a pregnant dog that had fallen into a storm drain.

Understanding that pets are cherished members of many families, firefighters quickly assessed the situation, implemented safe rescue techniques, and successfully removed the dog without injury.
The crew posted on Facebook:  “This incident serves as a reminder that emergency response extends beyond traditional expectations. Whether responding to a structure fire, a motor vehicle accident, or rescuing a beloved family pet, Stewart County Fire Rescue remains committed to protecting and serving our community.”
They said, “When many people think of the fire department, they picture firefighters battling structure fires or responding to vehicle accidents. While these emergencies remain a core function of our service, the role of today’s fire department continues to evolve to meet the growing and diverse needs of our community.
“In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical response, Stewart County Fire Rescue provides specialized services including hazardous materials response, water rescue, high-angle rescue, confined space rescue, and technical rescue operations. No matter the nature of the call, our mission remains guided by three core priorities: life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation.”
