columbus-graphic

The Jackson Purchase Historical Society will meet on Saturday March 14 in the Conference Center in the park office building at Columbus Belmont State Park beginning at 10:30 am. The meeting is free and open to the public. The park is in Columbus, Kentucky off State Highway 123.

The program will feature Joseph Lonsway who will present and discuss a video history of Columbus that he has produced. He is a senior at Graves County High School and produced the video as part of the school’s Media Arts Pathway. He will be attending Murray State University in the fall and will major in visual communications.

The Graves County High School Media Arts Pathway offers a hands-on, multi-year program focusing on video production, broadcast journalism, and digital media. Students learn to create news packages, video, and design content, providing a practical art credit while building skills for careers in digital media. Established in 1985, the program has been student produced ever since.

“I was immediately impressed by the quality and content of Joseph Lonsway’s video when I first saw it. I reached out at once to arrange for him to do a program with us. Our mission is to preserve and make available the history of the Jackson Purchase, and this video does that and shows how modern media can be used effectively in that effort. We also want to involve younger people, and this is a wonderful opportunity to do that,” JPHS President Bill Mulligan offered. “He will be the youngest presenter at one of our meetings in my memory, which is an added benefit” Mulligan concluded.
