Union City Elementary School students recently enjoyed the best of two worlds.
Administrators, teachers, and staff paired annual favorites Read Across America and Book Fair Week, much to the delight of the UCES student body.
The Doctor Seuss-themed Read Across America included special daily dress-up opportunities and numerous ‘guest readers,’ who entertained and educated classes.
Book Fair Week activities included the always-popular VIP Day that saw parents, grandparents, and other special guests visit the school to shop with their children.
This year, Family Night was also observed with a ‘Dog Man’ theme. Numerous activities, giveaways, and prizes made for a fun-filled evening. The first 80 shoppers were given a Dog Man treat bag.
Winners of door prizes included Amiyah Burnside, Kayzlee Long, Andrea Esteban-Ortiz, Thiago Vazquez-Arellano, Amya Eaton, Emme Maddox, and Crystianna Shane-Drake.
The book fair raises money each year for new library books and also provides classroom books and materials.
With the help of generous donations, every student was able to purchase a book.
“The book fair is always a wonderful time to nurture a love of reading for our students,” UCES librarian Mindy McClanahan said. “Once again, we had a tremendous turnout from people in our community, and our faculty and our students are so appreciative of their interest in our young people.”
