Paris, Tenn.–The remains of Caleb D. Moore, who had been missing since December, were found at the bottom of an abandoned well. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have received confirmation that the human remains are that of Moore.
Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey recounted the timeline:
On December 29, 2025, Caleb D. Moore of 9120 Highway 69 South in Henry County, TN, was reported missing by his family. Moore’s family was concerned due to them not having any contact with Moore for several weeks. At that point, an active missing person investigation was started in an attempt to locate Moore.
Throughout the investigation, persons were interviewed, searches were conducted, and drones were utilized. On March 13, 2026, a coordinated joint search effort between a family organized search group and the Henry County Sheriff’s Office was conducted. The search efforts involved the use of Cadaver canines, which are canines specially trained in the detection of human remains.
During the course of the search, the Cadaver canines did alert to an abandoned well located on the property of 9120 Highway 69 South. At that point, a recovery effort was implemented. Due to the depth of the well and safety concerns, heavy equipment consisting of multiple trackhoes and bulldozers, were used to dig to the bottom of the well to gain safe access to where the human remains were located.
After several days of excavating, on March 15, 2026, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and TBI, was able to recover the human remains at the bottom of the well through the use of the Madison County Fire Department Special Operations Unit. The human remains were then taken to the Medical Examiners Office for identification and an autopsy.
On March 17,2026, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation received the results of a process called “Rapid DNA Testing”. The results did confirm the human remains as that of Caleb D Moore.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Madison County Fire Department and the numerous volunteers that provided heavy equipment and labor during the recovery process.
