It was a field trip that Union City High School Art Club students are sure to remember for a long time.
Thirty members of the group — along with longtime UCHS art teacher Hilary Webb and two other teacher chaperones — recently toured the Frist Museum of Art in Nashville, where they witnessed iconic masterpieces by legendary artists including Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and Edgar Degas.
The amazing opportunity centered around a docent-guided tour of the Frist’s exhibition The Impressionist Revolution: Monet to Matisse. The exhibit included nearly 50 paintings and sculptures celebrating the 150th anniversary of the first Impressionist exhibition.
Students also participated in various hands-on activities in the Martin Art Quest Interactive Art-Making Space.
Additionally, the group viewed an exhibit titled In Her Place, which included 100 works of art by an intergenerational group of 28 Nashville-based women artists.
The FAM first opened in 2001 and is committed to preserving Nashville’s architectural heritage while providing a vibrant space for visual art and cultural experiences. The building was built in the early 1930s, and formerly served as Nashville’s main post office until 1986.
The trip concluded with lunch at Nashville’s Farmers’ Market, where students sampled cuisines from various cultures and more than 20 restaurants.
