
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin held its annual Honors Day Ceremony on April 12 to recognize students who excel as scholars and leaders. Nadia McFadden (right), a chemistry major from Paris, receives the Outstanding Chemistry and Physics Student Award from UTM Chancellor Yancy Freeman, Sr. This award is given to an outstanding student selected by the faculty members of the Department of Chemistry and Physics. McFadden also received the David S. Loebbaka Award, which is given to an outstanding astronomy or physics student in honor of Dr. Loebbaka and is selected by the physics faculty members of the Department of Chemistry and Physics based on academic achievement.
Also shown at left is Dr. Laurie Couch, Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and to her right, Dr. Tammie Patterson, Associate Professor of Educational Studies at the UT Martin Parsons Center, who announced the awards.
Mason William Elliott, a political science major from Springville, received the Norman Lillegard Outstanding Philosophy Student Award, but was not in attendance. This award is given in recognition of a student’s academic excellence and intellectual engagement and is selected by the philosophy faculty members of the Department of History and Philosophy.
