New Eaglet (And Possibly More) Born At Fort Donelson

Dover, Tenn.–The members of the Fort Donelson Eagles Facebook page are abuzz with the news that at least one eaglet has been born. Or as Fort Donelson Superintendent Brian McCutchen put it, it appears that “the famed Fort Donelson eagle pair have at least one new little beaked bundle of joy to care for.”
Eagle observers have been noticing the parents taking turns bringing food to the nest and feeding, and photographers have been taking photos of nest which show the activity. Fort Donelson National Battlefield is located in Dover and have several generations of Bald Eagles living in the trees at the park.
McCutchen said, “Some believe that the little one may have hatched on March 12th, or soon after. Some believe that there may be two offspring this year, due to observed activity.” A photo of the nest which was taken March 19 is posted on our website and both Facebook pages.
The eagle’s tree-top condo is located near the top of a large pine tree, in the heart of the historic earthen Confederate fortification.
Every year, as word gets out, visitors come from far and wide to get a glimpse or photo of the offspring. With that, we post a reminder to please be aware of pedestrians, vehicles, and terrain around you. Park only in designated parking areas and view from off of the roadway.
